- 法院是在現代國家中職掌審判、解決爭議、解釋法律、執行司法權的機關。負責審理人與人、人民與政府或政府各部門之間的爭議,並作出判決。隨各國採取法律制度的不同,法院也有不同的架構。
- 法院还可以通过司法程序对立法机构和行政机构指定的法律和政府官员的行为是否违宪进行审查,称为违宪审查权或司法审查权。
- 法院的概念,以可分为广义和狭义两义,广义的法院,指一切审判机关,包括宪法法院、行政法院和特别法院等;狭义的法院,则特指普通法院。
